It was a relief to finally find an experienced craftsman to repair the Sash windows on our 103 year old house. Les, the SashDoctor is a true craftsman, one of the ‘old school’ who really takes a pride in his work. It was so enlightening to learn of his tips on looking after old properties. A wealth of knowledge.
Thank you Les – Rachel and Eileen
A wealth of knowledge
Les (The Sash Doctor) renovated five of our windows. He did an absolutely fantastic job. His attention to detail and craftmanship are second to none. I would have no hesitation in recommending him.

A real craftsman
He renovated and repaired 5 sash windows in a Victorian house with double glazed units. No absolutely no complaints. I have already recommended to family and friends.

Les put a new sash window in for me. I’m happy to recommend them to others.

Brilliant!
Refurbished 4 sets of Sash windows. 3 of these windows were from 1824, he replaced the antique wood, restored the windows to their former glory.

Efficient, tidy and reliable
Les, the sash doctor is a true craftsman. His personal and professional standards are extremely high. We were thinking of repairing our rotten windows but are so happy to meet Les and get him to renovate. If there is one feedback point, it would be about communication. Otherwise we are delighted with the work and attention to detail.

A true craftsman
We approached Les, The Sash Doctor, after deciding we wanted our original sash windows renovating rather than replacing with new wood. Les has since renovated windows in the whole house and renovated our antique front door. We have used his services on approx three occasions in total as his workmanship (quality) is outstanding. We would rather pay more for his high standard than approaching a cheaper / sub standard company. You pay for what you get! Great service all round. Always turned up.

Fantastic quality
Workmanship was excellent, hard to come by these days. I have had sash windows taken out and restored previously, so I know what is involved. When I spoke to Les I new he was the right man for the job and it proved right. Great job!

Excellent quality job
5 Georgian sash windows renovated back to original glory. Les started the job a month late due to unforeseeable weather conditions on previous job. This is partly where the 4 stars come from as communication of the delay didn’t happen unless I phoned him. This led to booking problems with my own self catering holiday business. However once on the job Les worked to a punctual time and left the job tidy every evening and at the end of the job both flats were left as clean as expected. The quality of workmanship is excellent and cannot fault in any way. Although I have given 5 stars for value as I do think the overall quality and costs involved in doing the job are fair the charge for extra work was not communicated at all and had a significant impact on the overall bill. I felt this should have been addressed. Overall I am very happy with Les’s work and will be using him in the future and would not hesitate in recommending him.

Right craftsman for the job
Have no hesitation in recommending The Sash Doctor. He is highly skilled and did a wonderful job for us, reconstructing a porch and replacing a complicated ‘period’ door.

Highly skilled professional job
We had six Victorian sash windows restored. Very little work had been done on them since 1878. They are now as good as new – if not better. If you want a cheap job or a quick job you should probably go elsewhere, but if you want the best possible job go to The Sash Doctor. I don’t think I have ever seen more painstaking work. This includes the woodwork, the priming, undercoating, top coat and reglazing. The only problem is that he is so busy that you might have to wait.

As good as new
The standard of Les’ workmanship and windows is incredible and he has really enhanced the feel of our Victorian cottage by replacing the 4 large, rotten existing windows with immaculate sashes. He also had the vision and expertise to suggest we fit splitter bars to the windows to give an even more rustic feel. A real character, Les cares about the standard of his work and that is what you want on such crucial parts of your home. Would happily use again – but he is a busy man!

Amazing standard of work
I have absolutely no hesitation in whole heartedly recommending The Sash Doctor. Les has done a magnificent job on our sash windows, our house is grade II listed so we needed an expert. And we found one. Our windows were in a sorry state, many wouldn’t open after years of neglect, they were draughty, they rattled and several were rotten, but since he has completed a full restoration they look like new windows. In fact they are no doubt better than when they were fitted, we have no more draughts.

A stunning refurbishment of our sash windows
Les, aka the Sash Doctor, has done a superb job of repairing and conserving our original 1720’s Georgian sash windows. He made good shoddy workmanship from previous repairers and it is difficult to see where any repair work has been done. He was also able to replace damaged old glass with glass of a similar age and character. He also kept us entertained with his stories and his take on current affairs! I hope he is able to pass his expertise on to the next generation – it is too valuable to lose.

Amazing standard of work!
Les restored 3 x 12 paned sash windows at our grade 2 listed property. This included stripping years of old acrylic paint from the frames & sash’s to reveal the original wood. He then began the job of rebuilding the rails, fixing cracks in the woodwork, repairing damage to the sills, cleaning out the boxes (where the weights live), reglazing every pane (36), replacing the hardware, ropes and weights. He repainted every cm and left the windows looking almost like new whilst somehow retaining the original character. They now look amazing, open easily and are draftproofed. Les tidies as he works and left our house very clean at the end of each day and when he finally left the job. The overall standard of his work is excellent, his attention to detail and the final results are fantastic. I would highly recommend Les to anyone looking for a quality craftsman.

Craftsmanship at its best
Les did a fantastic job restoring the 5 original sash windows in my home last summer, I really can’t speak highly enough of the quality of work. The windows were in such poor condition but, honestly, now, they look like new. I couldn’t be happier. The work Les put into each window was incredible, he’s a real perfectionist. It’s worth saying this was not a quick job and took a good few weeks but the results are exceptional. everyone has commented on how brilliant the windows look and what a craftsman Les is. Les also restored my original front door and some internal woodwork to the same incredibly high standards. Les is a true character, so passionate about his work and the results speak for themselves.

High standard Customer Service 5*
Jane and I are so pleased with the work you carried out on the sash windows at our home. Having a Georgian period property, listed as having architectural interest, it was vital that the restoration of the sash windows should retain as much of the original wood and glass construction as possible. And you managed to refurbish them, even though some windows collapsed when you lifted them out of the frames.
185 years of slim ‘lambs tongue’ glazing bars restored to their former glory but with the original slightly out of shape character retained. Old glass, warped and only 1mm thick, reused where possible and only replaced with slightly newer glass when the removal of the putty exposed the fact the panes were too small for the apertures, a fact concealed over the years with paint. Sashes beautifully weighted, making them a joy to open and close.
The temporary workroom (tent) you set up ensured all the dirty work took place outside even though it rained nearly every day of the four weeks you were with us. The work has certainly altered the dynamics of the drawing room. For the first time in the 24 years we have lived here we were able to sit next to the refurbished, draft proofed windows during the day without having to close the curtains. The grace of the Georgian period windows has been restored by your knowledge, skill and patiently executed work. It takes “time” and time is money, but money well spent.
The conservation officer was very impressed with the finished result and has asked for your details so he can pass the information onto other property owners wishing to retain the historic fenestration quality of their homes.
Best wishes
Alistair and Jane
We are so pleased with the work carried out
Having recently finished the complete refurbishment of all my sash windows which entailed repairing the existing sashes wherever possible and only replacing with new sashes where absolutely necessary and also installing double glazed units throughout. I would have no hesitation in recommending you to any prospective customers. The workmanship has been of the highest standard throughout and the overall effect of the double glazing combined with the elimination of draughts has resulted in a marked improvement in the warmth of the house.
I would also wish to express my appreciation as regards the radiator covers you created in a style which reflects the age of the house. These have made an immediate visual improvement to the rooms involved.
Again, my thanks for all you have done
Yours Sincerely
B. Hughes
No hesitation in recommending
Regarding Les “The Sash Doctor”. We had our 5 Victorian windows restored, we were impressed by the standard of workmanship. Les has a real understanding and passion for his craft. He worked diligently, with great skill and always left the area clean and tidy.
The job has certainly made a great improvement to the presentation, warmth and security of our house.
We would recommend him to any future customers.

Understanding and passion for his craft
Les came recommended to us by a neighbour, so we had an opportunity to see the results of his work before he started. We suggest you do the same. He will be more than happy to show you examples of his skill, experience and commitment. He has transformed our home in terms of both appearance and comfort.
The Sash Doctor is ‘old school’ when it comes to work standards and pride in the results he achieves. No doubt some big companies will appear to offer everything you need, sometimes at an apparently attractive price but if you really want to ensure that the work is top notch and that every necessity and detail is covered, Les is your man. Let’s face it, replacing your sash windows is something you are only going to do once and is a serious investment in your property, protecting the building from the elements and providing warmer and quieter rooms in your home, something we noticed immediately after the work was completed.
Les will explain everything to you, both before and during the job, so that you will be absolutely confident that all the right things have been done. We seriously doubt that anyone has more experience and knowledge than him and there is no substitute for those qualities. No cutting corners on work standards or specifications, no ‘sales’ talk, no hidden costs and extras. He works hard and he works professionally. We paid a fair price for a really first class job. We could not be more pleased.

Les,
Just wanted to thank you for a superb job. As soon as I spoke to you I knew you had both skill and enthusiasm for your Chosen Subject. This makes you a Mastermind of Sashes.
Talk to me next summer about the windows in the kitchen and bathroom.

Thanks so much for a lovely job on my sash windows. I’ve had loads of positive comments about them and have given out your contact details to quite a few who have enquired.
Could you slot us in for a quote in for the rest that need doing please?
Looking forward to hearing from you again.
