Sash window upgrade and repair in Roach Bridge, Preston
This wonderful period house in the picturesque village of Roach Bridge required some tricky repairs. Repairing and restoring triple box sash sash windows is not an easy task and these ones came complete with stone mullions. Many of the windows seemed, on the face of it, beyond repair, but “The Doctor” was able to miraculously repair and restore all the damaged sashes and sash boxes to an exceptionally high standard. As part of this job we;
- Removed all rotting timber, and carried out full lower box replacements to all the windows. This involves removing all the timber in the lower half and doing a load bearing repair on both sides of the window. This allows the window to take the additional weight required to upgrade the windows for double glazing. Replacement timber and cills were fitted.
- All sashes were sanded, planed, repaired, re-glazed and redecorated
- Draught proofing was applied to every window. We replaced all staff beads and parting beads with new timber alternatives which incorporated an engineered draught strip. Not a piece of plastic in sight!
- All new windows were fitted with new centre lock catches and lifters. We have these available in a number of finishes, including chrome, brass, brushed steel and antique brass.
In this example, we were able to install the double glazed units into the original sash windows, without the need for full replacement windows. It is worth noting, that if you allow your single glazed sash windows to deteriorate in their condition, this is not always possible and full replacements may be your only option. We will always try and repair and use your existing windows for an upgrade before suggesting replacements.
